       McKinnon could be extradited to US by Christmas

Alan Johnson said he had considered demands for him to intervene in the case but had decided the extradition would not breach Mr McKinnon's human rights.

The 43-year-old, from Wood Green in north London, is accused of breaking into the Pentagon's computer system but says he was just seeking UFO evidence.

Mr McKinnon, who has Asperger's syndrome, was given hope last month when the Home Secretary agreed to study new medical evidence before deciding on his extradition to the US.

Mr Johnson's deliberations came after the High Court refused Mr McKinnon permission to appeal to the Supreme Court against his removal to America.

Mr McKinnon's family say that his health has deteriorated significantly under the pressure of the pending extradition and fears about how he will be treated by the US authorities.

Now in a statement, Mr Johnson said: "I have carefully considered the representations in the case of Gary McKinnon.

"The information is not materially different from that placed before the High Court earlier this year and does not demonstrate that sending Mr McKinnon to the US would breach his human rights."

He added: "As the courts have affirmed, I have no general discretion. If Mr McKinnon's human rights would be breached, I must stop the extradition. If they would not be breached, the extradition must go ahead."

Mr McKinnon's mother, Janis Sharp, said Mr Johnson and the Government "should hang their heads in shame".

"To force a peaceful, vulnerable, misguided UFO fanatic like Gary thousands of miles away from his much-needed support network is barbaric," she said.

"This is a cruel and miserable decision. If the severity of Gary's medical condition isn't sufficient to prevent his extradition, I can't imagine what is. "God help others facing a similar fate. I'm so upset and angry."

Ms Sharp said her legal team would now apply for a judicial review, but if that was not granted then her son could be extradited before Christmas. "What a heartless and cowardly decision this is," she added. (That's a polite way of putting it!)

MPs' bombshell letter explodes Home Secretary's claim that law makes him powerless to halt extradition

Alan Johnson was last night told by a powerful group of MPs that he can and must halt the extradition of Gary McKinnon. In a devastating letter, the Home Affairs Select Committee flatly rejected Mr Johnson's claim that he is powerless to intervene.

Gary, who has Asperger's syndrome and is said to be suicidal, is due to be handed over to the U.S. under the controversial Extradition Act. There he faces up to 60 years in jail for hacking into Pentagon and Nasa computers while searching for proof of alien life.

But the Labour chairman of the committee, Keith Vaz, said the 'precarious state' of Gary's mental health meant his removal should be stopped. The letter also calls for a 'comprehensive review' of the entire Extradition Act - which is widely considered imbalanced against British citizens.

It is a stunning vindication for Gary's supporters, and will pile enormous pressure on Mr Johnson to change his stance.

Earlier this year, the Mail presented the Home Secretary with evidence from two leading extradition lawyers stating that he could stop the removal on health grounds. But Mr Johnson - while refusing to publish his own legal advice - stubbornly insisted that this was not the case.

The letter from Mr Vaz - a former minister - to the Home Secretary says: 'We received a clear legal opinion... that the scope for the exercise of discretion by the Home Secretary is greater than you believe. 'Because of Mr McKinnon's precarious state of mental health, the Committee is of the view that he should not be extradited to the U.S.A. and you should exercise your discretion in this case.'

Officially, Mr Johnson has 'stopped the clock' on Gary's removal to the U.S while he considers new medical evidence of the danger he may take his own life if extradited. A decision is expected later this month, but the Home Secretary continues to insist his hands are tied. If he allows the extradition to proceed, he would be flying in the face of evidence from lawyers, autism experts and now one of Parliament's most influential committees.

Harriet Harman just made a speech on reforms to clean up Parliament in the wake of the MPs' expenses scandal. But maybe just as interesting is her canvassing of Labour party members. In what is being seen by at least one Labour MP as a possible prelude to another leadership bid, Ms Harman's volunteers have been asking the following questions:

"Who do you think is the best person to sell the Labour party?"

"On a scale of 0 to 5, how do you rate Harriet Harman?"

A spokeswoman for Ms Harman insists it is something the Deputy Labour leader has been doing for some time:

"When she won the deputy leadership campaign, she pledged that she would keep in contact with party activists and she has done that ever since.

As part of that commitment, she has a team of volunteer activists who regularly ring around to hear the opinions of grassroot activists. It’s a very useful and important means to keep Harriet in touch with the party and it’s something that is appreciated by party activists.” 

Sue Thomas, a constituency party secretary in Ipswich, tells me that she was asked to rate not just Harriet's performance but also, on a scale of 1 to 5, that of G Brown himself. Sue insists that the questions were not put in the form of "Harriet v Gordon" or phrased as a leadership bid in any way. 

A spokeswoman for Ms Harman says the plain and simple answer to the question in the title of this blogpost is: "An unambiguous 'No'."

"Harriet is doing the job that she was elected to do - to maintain party engagement and it's entirely legitimate for her to do this as part of that process."

"This is a regular activity, not something started with any ulterior motive. Harriet is a loyal deputy to the Prime Minister and it's utter rubbish to suggest otherwise or to suggest that she's building some kind of database of emails and information."

So,  Mad Hattie's leadership ambitions are showing no signs of diminishing - as if! Although she and her supporters constantly deny that she is actively campaigning for the job, many Labour MPs and Ministers refute these denials. I remember not so long ago either reading or hearing on a news programme that her ideal outcome in a leadership election would place her as PM and Alan Johnson as her Deputy - I don't imagine she would get much trouble from him! 

Insiders said, "everyone knows that Harriet is building a base among members - everything she does is about positioning for the leadership." Her actions came to light as Labour insiders say the party is starting to look beyond Mr Brown. One backbencher said: “You can’t find anyone outside No 10 who thinks we can win the next election, so it’s all about who takes over as leader after we lose and Gordon goes.” 

Many Labour MPs believe that Brown can hold on until the election and I, for one, would be extremely happy if that is indeed the case, however, senior members foresee no improvement in Labour's poll ratings if Brown remains in place and, as such, want a leadership challenge after the Labour conference in a few weeks time. I truly hope they botch this third attempt to oust him because he is our best hope for a complete Labour meltdown come election time and that is our best hope to turn Britain back into the place where we used to live in freedom from these socialist monsters and their partners in crime, the damned socialist EU!

Labour's Master Election Planners Turn Their Backs On Ranting Brown

Gordon Brown’s bid to cling on to power has been dealt another savage blow after it emerged that the Labour Party’s leading campaigners are boycotting his Election team.

Three senior Labour figures,all of whom played key roles in Tony Blair’s string of victories, have rejected personal pleas by No10 to help Mr Brown defeat David Cameron.

Labour chiefs say they are being forced to ‘scrape the barrel’ when it comes to putting together their campaign team because Mr Brown has made so many enemies in the party and has little chance of winning.

 

Mr Brown’s former aide and speechwriter Spencer Livermore has refused to return to a full-time job at Downing Street. He left No10 weeks after the Prime Minister reduced him to tears during an explosive tantrum over the on-off election fiasco in autumn 2007, and friends say he is not willing to go back because he still feels ‘scarred’ over the incident.

Veteran Labour loyalist David Hill, who succeeded Alastair Campbell as Tony Blair’s Director of Communications and now works for PR company Good Relations, has also indicated that he will not join Mr Brown’s election campaign team. 

Fellow spin-doctor David-John Collins, a former speechwriter for Tony Blair, and now head of corporate communications for the internet giant Google, has also turned down a similar approach, citing ‘family reasons’.

Both men had been expected to take time off work to help the party.

Mr Brown’s allies say Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, who is in charge of election planning, is running out of suitable replacements.

‘No one wants to work for Gordon either because they think defeat is a foregone conclusion, they have no faith in him or theyjust don’t like his ranting,’ said one source. ‘We are having to scrape the barrel.’

The boycott by battle-hardened Labour campaigners lends weight to claims that Mr Brown’s mood swings are an increasing concern in Labour’s inner circle.

‘If Gordon wants people to die in a ditch for him, he should treat them with more consideration,’ said a Labour insider. ‘Loyalty begets loyalty.’

But the Prime Minister’s supporters rejected claims that he is impossible to work with.‘Gordon is a very intense person and gets cross when things go wrong because he cares so much,’ said one. ‘It is cobblers to say he is manic or a depressive.

Labour insiders say that high ranking party members have been trying to persuade Alan Johnson to stop dithering over his leadership ambitions as he is seen as a credible replacement for Brown, (God help us), and this will be their last chance to oust him before the election. Once again, (it's every day, now), that two-faced cowardly, sneaky little shit that is jolly Alan Johnson, everyone's friendly Home Secretary who smiles jovially while inserting a knife in your back, has shown his true, spineless NuLieBore colours by refusing to intervene in the Gary McKinnon extradition proceedings. Postman Prat is plodding along toeing the Government's line at every turn proving to the public, at least, that he is not fit for leadership purpose, or much else, for that matter! This has now and for the last seven years got completely out of hand because some embarrassed bastard paid obscene amounts of money for a security system that Gary hacked as if it were a piece of crap!! Instead of looking for revenge, they should be offering him a job - God knows they need him!

Just 28 more Labour 'rebels', (I think they must go around crushing grapes or swatting insects when they're feeling rebellious), would have defeated the Government today - 28!

74 Labour MPs who had previously signed Commons motions backing Mr McKinnon or demanding a review of extradition agreements with the U.S. failed to go against the party line. Fifty-nine voted with the Government and 15 abstained.

I.D CARDS?

NuLieBore seem to be backing down on everything that they know the public hates in the run-up to the election. They appear to be trying to steal the little bits of Conservative policy that have been publicly announced as we all knew they would but because, wisely, no real detail has been publicised even though they keep trying to goad it out of the Tories, they are getting it hopelessly wrong - Ed Balls White Paper on school reform, for example, is a fucking joke - he quotes the Tory policy of more choice and control for parents and proceeds to fuck it up from there because the Tories haven't elaborated on how it would be achieved and Balls himself hasn't got a fucking clue! Then there is the dubiously massive U-turn on I.D. Cards - according to Alan Johnson they will now be voluntary and nobody will have to carry one unless they want it. I am so grateful that they wiped their arses with a staggering amount of taxpayers' money and pulled the cunting chain on it and I really do wonder if I.D.Cards would remain voluntary after any election which, God forbid, Labour won - there has been no mention of scrapping the actual database and we were, after all, promised a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty and look how that promise evaporated following the 2005 election. The only way we can be sure that I.D. Cards are scrapped once and for all is for the Conservatives to win the general election in 2010 and that the whole fucking Labour machine is obliterated in the process.
